Designer wallets offer quality, beauty and function to the consumer. Since a wallet is used virtually every day, it needs to be able to stand up to the rigors of constant use. Many people purchase designer wallets because of thei manufacturer’s reputation, but spending money on one does not guarantee that it will remain in good condition. An Armani wallet, a Paul Smith wallet or other designer wallet provides stylish function, but may cost a little more than a generic or unknown brand. Therefore, you want to be able to get years of use and enjoyment from it so you need to know how to maintain it properly.
Keeping Your Wallet’s Shape
Armani wallets and Paul Smith wallets are usually made out of leather. One way to ensure that they remain in excellent condition is to avoid overstuffing them. Whether you have a men’s wallet or a ladies wallet, overstuffing can cause the wallet to become stretched out. Clean the interior of your wallet regularly by removing unneeded receipts, cards and other information.
Keeping Your Wallet Clean
Compartmentalize your make-up. If you have a ladies wallet and keep it in your pocketbook, be sure to keep your make-up in a zippered pouch so that it cannot touch your wallet. Make-up and perfume can stain your wallet.
In addition, try to avoid touching your wallet when you are eating or have greasy hands. Your wallet may not clean easily and greasy stains can easily mar its appearance.
Make sure that writing implements are capped or do not have their points exposed when they are in your purse. Ink can be difficult to remove from leather.
Minimize Scratches
Mens wallets may be less likely to become scratched because they are often kept in a front or back pocket alone. In contrast, ladies wallets are usually carried in a purse. If you carry a sectioned pocketbook, keep your wallet in a section away from pens and keys. Keys can accidentally scratch your wallet.
White Wallets
White leather wallets require more careful care. Try to keep your white wallet away from the sun and strong light as it can become damaged and turn yellow. Cloth white wallets are more likely to show grime as well.
Cleaning Care
If your wallet becomes wet, immediately blot the water gently with a soft cloth. Avoid a rubbing motion or using an abrasive cloth that could scratch your wallet.
When purchasing a designer wallet, ask what the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning instructions are. Try not to use any products that are not designed for cleaning your wallet. They may damage your wallet, especially if they are not designed for leather or the type of fabric used on your wallet.
If the designer does not recommend a particular product, leather can usually benefit from a yearly cleaning with saddle soap. However, try the saddle soap on an obtrusive area of the wallet. Use a damp cloth to massage the saddle soap into the exterior of the leather wallet. Take a damp cloth and remove the lather. Next dry the wallet with a non-abrasive soft cloth.
Repair
Although designer wallets are usually well stitched and durable, older wallets may suffer from wear and tear. If you see a loose stitch, have the wallet repaired promptly.
These tips should help your Armani, Paul Smith or other brand name wallets stay in good condition. A little bit of care will ensure that your wallet lasts for many years.
